Sophia received a heartbreaking phone call in late April: her dad, David, was hospitalized at the West Los Angeles Veterans Hospital with inoperable, untreatable brain tumors. After meeting with her father's care team, it was agreed to remove his breathing and feeding tubes and move him to palliative care so that he could live his final days in peace. David passed early in the morning on Thursday, May 14.

He spent the last 7 years of his life advocating for housing for other veterans, even testifying before members of Congress about the conditions of veterans living on the streets of Skid Row.

Sophia just transitioned into a new part time job as a library associate, but the transition leaves her with a gap in her income. Now that her free time is filled with managing her father's last days and burial she needs to postpone finding another part time job, making that gap large enough that she needs our help to provide mortuary services for her father's remains and to keep her and her cat housed and fed until her father is laid to rest so that she can restart her job search.
