Support Sonny's Cancer Treatment

Cancer is an incredibly personal journey—and mine has been filled with resilience, hope, privacy, and an extraordinary team of doctors and caregivers.

On March 28, 2022, what started as a routine visit to my eye doctor for an unexplained darkness in my peripheral sight line turned into a diagnosis of Uveal Melanoma, a rare and aggressive ocular cancer with no current cure—only treatments aimed at improving quality of life.

Over the past several years, I’ve undergone numerous treatments at UCLA, ranging from plaque chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and a host of trial drugs.

During one phase of my treatment, Jules Stein Ocular Center removed my eye to resect a tumor, plaque radiation, radiation therapy, four rounds of Hepzat,o and one trial of radiopharmaceutical, all requiring lengthy hospital stays and painful procedures.

The challenge with this cancer is its immunity to traditional chemotherapy, leading me to explore emerging treatment centers in Pittsburgh, Colorado, San Francisco, Tampa and ultimately back to Los Angeles.

Each step has brought new strength, but also new challenges—physically, emotionally, and financially.

Until recently, I chose to keep my illness mostly private. I have an amazing advocate in my partner, Jayne. She has put much of her life and priorities on hold to ensure I have the best medical care… I do the work, and she does all the research, scheduling, and cross-checking for my trials and treatments.

My kids, Alissa, Cooper, Clayton, and my Baltimore family bring so much joy into my life. They are my reason… watching them thrive makes my fight worthwhile, but I know cancer is tough on everyone. They make a huge effort to travel to LA and keep me up on the day-to-day when we can't be together.

So I’m asking for help. While many of the trials I have attempted are covered medically, travel and time off work are at personal expenses, while I face an uncertain future with the next steps.
