Sonia Perez is a street vendor in Bushwick, Brooklyn, where she has lived and worked as a member of the community for the last 20 years. She is a single mother of four children, a grandmother, and true community leader - always helping other vendors and fighting for street vendor rights. If you've ever walked down Knickerbocker on a sunny Saturday, you've likely run into her sharing news and the most delicious tamales of your life!!
Sonia and her family need your help to survive the next few months. For the past few weeks she and her entire family have fallen sick with COVID, making an already impossible situation so much worse. She has been out of work for almost a full year, as she has health complications that make vending in a pandemic very dangerous, and she has been excluded from all state and federal economic relief. Tragically, this year her children's father passed away, who had also been an economic support for the whole family. Sonia has been unable to pay rent for the last three months, her landlord is texting and calling her everyday threatening eviction, and electricity and gas bills are pilling up.
Sonia is a fierce advocate for her community, and now she's needs her community to support her through this difficult time. Please support nuestra luchadora Sonia.
