Hi, my name is Sona Barak, and I’m a parent of two young children. I never imagined I would be in a position where I’d need to ask for help like this, but right now my family and I are going through an incredibly difficult time. I have been diagnosed with advanced cancer, and because of my illness I’ve fallen behind on rent, utilities, and other basic bills. I recently received a notice from my apartment, and I’m scared of losing our home while trying to stay strong for my children. I’ve applied for assistance programs like cash aid and CalFresh, but I was told it could take three weeks or longer to receive help. Unfortunately, my bills and utilities can’t wait that long. I’m asking for help to cover rent, utilities, and basic living expenses while I wait for benefits to start and continue treatment. Any amount—no matter how small—would mean the world to us.
