Our dear friend Sommer has spent her life in service to others. As a healer trained in massage, qi gong, traditional Chinese medicine, reiki, herbalism, and shamanic traditions, she has worked with veterans, people recovering from addiction, and survivors of gender-based violence. Sommer has also shared her gifts as a teacher, writing curriculum for certification bodies and hosting free or sliding-scale sessions for those in need. Her work has touched countless lives, offering healing, hope, and compassion wherever it was most needed.

In late 2024, Sommer was diagnosed with breast cancer, a challenge she is meeting with the same grace and determination that define her. Despite stepping away from her practice to focus on treatment, she remains filled with joy and hope, sharing her wisdom and infectious laugh with everyone around her. Her diagnosis comes at a difficult time for her and her husband Jake, who recently left his job to pursue a business degree focused on sustainability and environmental advocacy. The couple’s plan to rely on Sommer’s steady income was upended, leaving them without financial stability while they navigate this challenging chapter.

While Medicaid covers many medical expenses, Sommer relies on alternative therapies, such as acupuncture, massage, and energy healing, to support her recovery. Thanks to donations from local practitioners, many of these therapies are discounted, but they still create a financial strain. Additionally, Jake’s new job won’t begin paying until May, leaving them struggling to meet basic living expenses in the meantime.

We’re rallying to raise $30,000 to help Sommer and Jake during this time.
