Sommer Janis was very recently diagnosed with colon cancer that has metastasized to her right ovary and lymphatic system. She has already had surgery to put in a temporary colostomy because her colon was almost completely occluded by the cancer tumor. Right now, she is awaiting a PET scan to determine if the cancer has spread elsewhere.

Sommer and CJ are the loving parents of 7-year-old first grader, Hunter. Sommer has always been very involved and active with Hunter, and he is her joy.

Sommer has worked as a hairstylist for 28 years, and she has worked with nearly the same group of people. While she enjoys her work and her colleagues, the downside is that she is self-employed. If she doesn’t work, she doesn’t make any money. She mentioned to me that she also has “the worst” health insurance, and her medical bills are already excessive. The financial concerns are an added worry for her right now, when ideally all she should be focused on is her health and her child.

Sommer’s mother died several years ago, and, sadly, her father died unexpectedly during heart surgery on November 14th. As anyone can imagine, Sommer’s life is extremely difficult right now.
