Bottom Line Up Front:
• Our family's lawnmower shop was broken into with thousands of dollars in damages.
• We had no luck with insurance and are struggling to pay incoming bills. Our insurance agent refused to file a claim. We wanted to sue but most law firms and public adjusters recommended against it, as our losses of $25,000 was considered "too low." These firms look for minimums ranging from $50,000 to $500,000 so our business is tiny.
• Your contributions have so far allowed us to regain security. Thank you!
• LAPD is still working on the case. We have not received any updates besides the detective recognizing the suspect.

Background:

Hello! My name is Kevin, and I currently serve as an active-duty U.S. Army Soldier. I am stationed at Fort Moore, Georgia and am originally from the San Fernando Valley in California.

Situation:

Around 4am of Tuesday, June 11, someone broke into the next-door Alcoholics Anonymous Chapter's front door and destroyed their wall to rob our store. It was a calculated effort demonstrating the determination of the thief to steal from my family. We estimate about $25,000 in damages, including stolen commercial equipment, lost wages, and lost revenue. Not to include the psychological harm it has caused.

Your Contributions:
  • We lost about $25,000 in damages. This includes merchandise stolen, lost wages, and lost revenue from the break-in. Because of this, we are struggling to meet our incoming bills. Like most small businesses, we have little cash on hand and are just trying to grow month-to-month. This incident was financially devastating to my family.

About My Family:

I love my family so much.

Like most immigrant parents, my dad (who goes by our last name) Baek and mom Rachel have served as inspiration for perseverance and faith for me and my brothers. Immigrating from South Korea, they gave up their comfortable lifestyles in pursuit of the American Dream. They sacrificed so much to allow me and my brothers to live better lives than they had. Eventually, they became proud naturalized U.S. citizens themselves.

Support does not have to be in the form of money. Money alone will not solve our shock. Any positive thoughts, prayers, and advice are all warmly welcomed! Thank you so much for taking the time to read this.

From my family to yours, we are grateful to be your neighbor and we wish you the best!
