Help Us Save Groundbreaking Research in Northern Nigeria:
This year alone, Northern Nigeria has experienced multiple weeks without electricity, with the national grid failing us numerous times. These persistent outages have severely disrupted our research and placed our progress in jeopardy.
In our lab, we are working tirelessly to isolate phages that can combat multidrug-resistant Pseudomonas strains, with therapeutic applications for diabetic wounds, cystic fibrosis, and other severe infections. We’ve also made significant progress with isolates for E. coli, Clostridium, and Salmonella typhi—a result of months of dedication.
Adding to our mission, we are actively developing a phage-based vaccine for typhoid, a potentially transformative solution for one of the most widespread bacterial infections in Nigeria. But with power failures continually threatening our refrigeration systems, we face the risk of losing these invaluable samples—and years of hard work.
The Urgency:
These ongoing power disruptions don’t just delay our experiments—they compromise data integrity, waste years of effort, and jeopardize our vision of establishing Nigeria’s first dedicated phage therapy and vaccine development center. Without a reliable power source, our ability to carry out this critical work is under serious threat.
The Solution: Solar Power for a Resilient Lab.
We are seeking to install a 20 kW solar energy system to ensure uninterrupted power supply for our lab. This system will allow us to:
• Power critical lab equipment, including our -80°C freezers and other energy-intensive instruments.
• Maintain sample storage and refrigeration, safeguarding our invaluable isolates.
• Achieve independence from unreliable grid electricity
