My name is Soft, and I am a Mexican American trans woman preparing for a major step in my journey: gender affirming surgery. In the fall of 2025, I am scheduled to have breast augmentation and facial feminization surgery in Manhattan, New York. These procedures are essential for me to feel comfortable in my own skin and to help my outward appearance match the way I feel inside. For as long as I can remember, I have struggled with body dysphoria, and it has been a significant source of depression for me. Starting hormone therapy in October 2022 was a big milestone, but surgery is the next step I need to truly feel at home in my body.
Getting to this point has not been easy. I have faced discrimination throughout my life, especially when it comes to employment. I have been turned away from jobs and even fired simply for being a trans woman. These experiences have made it difficult to find stability and security, but I have always tried to keep moving forward. The current political climate has made things even more challenging, with increased attacks on the trans community and efforts to limit access to healthcare and resources. Despite these obstacles, I am determined to continue my journey and get the care I need.
The costs of surgery and recovery are significant. I will be out of work for at least six weeks while I heal, and I need help covering both the medical expenses and my basic living costs during that time. Thankfully, my partner and best friends will be supporting me through my recovery, but I cannot do this alone. Your support will help me access the care I need and give me the chance to move forward with confidence and hope. Thank you for being part of my journey.
