Hi, my name is Sofia Hurtado, everyone calls me “Sofie”, I'm 18 years old and just started my 1st year of community college. I am working on my degree in elementary education. Unfortunately, after this past Christmas I found a lump on my neck that I thought was just a swollen lymph node from a virus I was getting over. A month went by, and my lump was not going away and another lump appeared on my neck, I listened to my body and went to the hospital. They started testing and admitted me for further testing. After a week in the hospital, I was diagnosed with Stage 4 Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. I went to my first appointment to Moffit Cancer Center. I was informed I needed to handle a couple of health concerns before my chemo treatments began to prevent any infections occurring while I am on chemotherapy. I was working as a swim instructor and since I have been diagnosed with cancer I had to quit my job and leave my students who I loved dearly to focus on my health. Because I had to quit I do not have the funds to cover the medical expenses and need a little help. I am asking my friends and family to help with anything you can.
