Neighbors and friends, please support Sofia and her family. Just yesterday on December 26, a fire on Metropolitan Avenue, around the corner from PS 132, left her family’s home, with her two children, and their two cats, unlivable. Everyone is safe, but their lives were suddenly upended, and they now need to find their bearings and figure out what comes next. They have been longtime members of the Williamsburg community and have built their lives here through the nearby school, friends and neighbors. Like many families in the neighborhood, they have worked hard to stay rooted in a community that has changed quickly and become much more expensive over time.

We are raising funds to help cover temporary housing and moving costs for the family, while they look for a new home. Our goal is to provide them with a few months of stability so they can make long-term decisions, instead of being rushed into an unaffordable situation. Having that time would allow their family to focus on finding a more permanent residence while balancing school and work.
