It is with profound sadness that we announce unexpected passing of the Socorro Castorena deeply loving mother and devoted mother figure to the community who was the pillar of optimism and guiding light for her family and neighboring children. An untimely death at the age of 59 on November 06, 2024, took Socorro from us much too soon. As a beloved teacher in the Thousand Oaks area, her students remembered her as a mentor who had a gift for ensuring every student felt seen and heard. Maestra Socorro had a way of making you feel like you could be your truest self in her presence; she genuinely brought out the best in all of us. If you knew Socorro then you know how much she loved her family above everything else, so we have created this fundraiser to lift her amazing children, Veronica Ramirez and Gabriela Ramirez, as they navigate their unimaginable loss. Funds will support the immediate burden that will come with services and will help to ensure that the daughters Vero and Gaby don’t face an additional burden in the months and years ahead as they face a future without their mom Socorro. Any remaining funds will be donated to the special needs school in her hometown in Tepezala, Aguascalientes MX; in honor of her long-standing practice of collecting funds and materials for the special education school for student betterment and enrichment.
