Urgent: Help Families Affected by the Afghanistan Earthquake

On Sunday, August 31, 2025, a powerful 6.0 magnitude earthquake struck eastern Afghanistan, devastating communities and causing tragic loss of life and widespread destruction. The quake's epicenter was in Nangarhar province, with tremors felt across the region. Hundreds of families have been left without homes, food, or access to essential medical care. The situation on the ground is dire, and the need for immediate assistance is critical.

Our organization, STEP (Society to Empower People), a Virginia-based 501(c)(3) non-profit, is launching this emergency GoFundMe campaign to provide immediate relief to the affected families. Our own staff and survey teams have been dispatched to the affected areas to assess the needs and ensure that aid is delivered quickly and effectively.
