Our dearest friend Smrts (Smritee Thapa) was so happy and living the “perfect life”. Wonderful supportive husband, 4 year old little boy, beautiful 4 months old daughter. She was content with her perfect little family. She also joined nursing school- Her life long dream which she was finally able to start this year. Everything was going perfect until March 5th, 2022 when she was diagnosed with brain tumor- Trigeminal Schwannoma and was recommended immediate surgery at age 34.
She was overwhelmed, terrified of complications, scared that she wouldn’t be able to see her children go to school and graduate. It was supposed to be a 6 hour surgery with great recovery and good prognosis until ALL OF IT went wrong. Her life changed forever…..Her surgery was complicated with brain hemorrhage, swelling and stroke. Now Smritee is unfortunately living her worst nightmare. Because she is still unconscious 24 DAYS after the surgery, she is now breathing through a tracheostomy(lung pipe). IN LESS THAN ONE MONTH, her life has turned upside down. She is going to be waking up hopefully soon, but she will have left sided paralysis and right sided coordination defect because of the stroke and only time will tell what other neurological deficits.
The good part, she is making baby steps to recovery. She is being discharged to LTACH soon (Short term rehab for very sick patients). From there, her family wants to bring her home. Hence, we are trying to collect funds to help her family pay for Caregiver/Home nursing/ Home health/ Medical supplies at home, some of which are NOT covered with insurance. We also want to be able to help Prakash financially, so he can focus on helping his wife Smritee heal and take care of the two kids without having to worry about finance. She was always there with a helping hand for those in need. I hope we can find it in our heart to send prayers, financial support and/or any effort we can to Smritee and her family at this difficult time of their lives.
Also, life is clearly too unpredictable. Let’s live each day to it’s fullest!!
