Smoochie has been by my side for nearly 17 years, providing unwavering support and love as my service dog. Her presence has allowed me to work, manage my PTSD, Ehlers Danlos Syndrome and find comfort through some of the most difficult moments in my life. Now, as Smoochie faces the challenges of old age—her eyesight and hearing fading, and her health requiring special care—our roles have shifted. I am now at home full-time to care for her, and finding work that allows me to stay by her side has been a struggle.

Smoochie’s needs have grown: she relies on a special kidney diet, requires regular bloodwork, and needs a safe car seat for travel. The costs of her food and medical care are ongoing, and every bit of support will help ensure she remains comfortable and healthy. Smoochie finds security in touch, loves her soft beds and stuffed toys, and enjoys stroller walks by my side. We share a full-size air bed close to the floor to keep her safe, and our bond is stronger than ever.

Smoochie has not only been my lifeline, but she has also brought joy to others as a visiting service pet for my patients during my years in home health care.
