Hey everyone. If you know me, then you know my dog Smokey. He has been my best friend and the most consistent thing in my life since I found him almost 9 years ago as a neglected puppy, and Zach and I love him more than anything. Everyone who knows Smokey, loves him, and knows what a special dog he is. He captures the heart of every person he meets, and he still has so much love to give.
About a month ago, Zach and I discovered a lump on Smokey’s thigh. Over the following weeks the lump got bigger, so we took him to the vet thinking that it might be an infection. The lump did not respond to antibiotics, and the vet recommended surgery to remove the mass and have it biopsied. The pathology determined that the lump is cancerous, but it did not determine what kind. We are waiting for the results from further testing to get a better idea of what we’re dealing with. While we wait, we are following up with Oncologists at Auburn and Mississippi State, and will go see whoever has the first available appointment. Regardless of the type of cancer, we do know that he will require further testing, imaging, and specialist visits (most likely out of state).
Hearing Smokey’s name and cancer in the same sentence has been my worst nightmare since he was a puppy. But, now that we are living that nightmare, Zach and I are determined to do anything and everything in our power to help him live a pain free life for as long as possible.
While we do have insurance, it will only go so far and cover so much. The last thing we want is for money to be the reason why we can’t provide Smokey the best available care and treatment options. If you are able to donate, any amount will make a difference. If you can’t support financially, sharing this link and sending us positive thoughts and prayers are just as meaningful to us during this time.
Thank you so much for your love and support while we navigate this.
-Grace, Zach, and Smokey
