Support Slim's Battle Against Stage 4 Cancer
Donation protected
I am starting this funding for a good friend of mine. His name is Scott Hartwell, but we call him Slim. On June 1, 2024, Slim was having pain on the side of his ribs. He thought he might have bruised his ribs somehow and was having issues with his breathing—enough pain and discomfort to warrant him to eventually go to the hospital to get checked out. He thought it would be something simple and would be out in a few hours. A few hours turned into an almost 1-month long stay. They ran multiple tests, and they discovered he had cancer: Stage 4 Metastatic Small Cell Lung Carcinoma. The doctor told him and his girlfriend that without chemotherapy, he had 60-90 days to live, but with invasive chemotherapy treatments, it would buy him a year. Slim, after the gut-wrenching news that he received, felt he needed to put his affairs in order. Slim has 3 young adult children, 2 son's and 1 daughter, and one school-age special needs son. So, to make sure that his son would be taken care of after his passing, the decision to marry his girlfriend was made. She was already helping him raise his special needs son. His son loves Ashley as his mom, and they have a wonderful bond. They already had plans to one day get married, and the diagnosis just fast-tracked their decision. On July 6, 2024, Scott & Ashley Hartwell were married, surrounded by family and friends. A few days later, the first round of chemotherapy was administered. By the second round, the cancer had already spread to his lymphatic system and also to his liver. Needless to say, his lymph nodes are now compromised. After 4 rounds of dual invasive chemotherapy, his white blood cells are too low to continue the treatment. The cancer has now spread into his bones, which causes severe pain, and it's hard for him to walk. There are hairline cracks in his bones. He did a round of radiation to help alleviate the complications in his legs. Slim knows he doesn't have much time, and the reason behind this GoFundMe is to alleviate some of the medical bills and help his new wife pay some bills. She's already working extra to stay on top of the normal bills and what it takes to run a house and take care of their special needs son. Please help Slim get some comfort knowing that his wife won't be drowning in bills and gets to spend as much time together before cancer finally takes him.
