Skyzen's Brain Tumor Story

It all began when Skyzen started football for the first time on June 4, 2024. During football conditioning, his mother and grandpa noticed Skyzen wasn't himself on his first day. He wasn't running at his usual pace or catching the ball. The mother knew he could run fast and catch the football, so she scheduled Skyzen a doctor's appointment on June 7, 2024, at 9:15 am. Skyzen's grandpa took him to his doctor's appointment and as the doctor asked questions, she advised his grandpa to admit him to the ER at Kapiolani and she'll order Skyzen an MRI.

Kapiolani ran an MRI and later found 2 tumors in Skyzen's brain. He needed to get an emergency surgery to place an EVD in his head for fluid to release pressure and circulate. Where his tumor is located is stopping the brain fluid from circulating which was affecting his vision, half of his face, and his whole body. We ran multiple tests and later found out Skyzen has germinoma brain cancer and his tumor was in his brain for months.

We now are currently treating Skyzen with chemotherapy at Kapiolani and radiation in San Diego at Rady Children's Hospital in September for approximately 4-7 weeks. While Skyzen is in this condition, his mom won't be able to go back to work due to multiple doctor's appointments during his recovery. She is also a single mom of 4 children and sadly his dad isn’t apart of his life. Mom is the head of the household. This situation will cause them to go through hardship with medical expenses and financial hardship due to consistently taking Skyzen to the hospital.

Update 8/27/24

Skyzens radiation treatment will be in early October and his 4th round of chemo got postponed to 8/29/24 because Skyzens ANC level isn’t high enough to start chemo. Skyzen also has a MRI scheduled for September 18 they will be scanning his whole head and his whole spine to see if the cancer did not spread any where else in his body. Skyzen is also still working with his physical therapist and occupational therapist.

These funds will be for Skyzen's medical expenses, transportation, and stay while in San Diego. Skyzen will be going to San Diego sometime in September for a consultation.

UPDATE 10/16/2024

Skyzen has been in San Diego since Oct 6, 2024. He’s currently being treated at Radys children hospital for his proton radiation treatment. He goes to treatment Monday-Friday till November 5, 2024 if there’s no delays.
