Hello, my name is Sky. I'm a student, musician, small business owner and an aspiring social worker based in Jane-Finch. Many may know me as a core team member of the Flaunt It Movement (a local grassroots organization) or perhaps you're finding this page from a mutual loved one. While I always struggled to ask for help, I'm feeling desperate in this situation for any support for my recovery.
On Monday, March 25, 2024, at around 3:15-3:20 PM, I left work for a 2-minute drive to our storage unit (Finch Ave West & Dufferin Street) to pick up some stuff for our community programming. On this beautiful, sunny day, I was making a left turn into the plaza entrance as the cars in the main lanes made an opening for me. As soon as my vehicle slightly peaked into the carpool lane between the road and the plaza, a speeding single driver came out of nowhere and crashed into me. It happened so fast that my car immediately swerved into the lane. The impact was so severe that it completely totalled the front of my car from the left to the front area. My airbag went off, my car was smoking, and I sustained injuries as I had to escape from the passenger seat.
Frantic, scared and in pain, I'm currently without a car. As a young queer woman who lives alone and works in the non-profit sector, my car was one of my biggest assets. I'm both heartbroken by the loss of my vehicle and I'm really suffering from a lot of physical pain. I won't be able to work for at least six weeks (as advised by my doctor) because I sprained my ankle, bruised my legs and ribs, and I may be concussed. However, not working also means I won't be able to afford my bills due to this. I'll be going on E.I., but we all know it'll barely be enough, considering I have to pay rent and additional bills, too.
So now, I'm asking for any support to help me buy a new car. Unfortunately, I never had full auto insurance to cover rentals and tows because I could never afford it, but I'm hoping to hire a lawyer to help me with the insurance.
I'm not looking to buy an expensive car (>$5000), but the remaining funds will help me afford full (increased) insurance and cover any temporary rentals, gas money, lawyer fees, etc. Any amount would be sincerely appreciated, and it would help to share this page. It would help relieve some stress, as this situation has been incredibly overwhelming. But overall, I'm grateful to be alive and that I trust in God that I'll get through this.
If anyone even has additional support they can offer or refer, such as services for massage, therapy, rentals, lawyers or is selling their car, please get in touch with me directly. Any help at all means the world.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story.
