Please make a financial donation to help the family of sweet Skyler during his recovery.
On March 30, 2018, nine-year old Skyler and his family were in a terrible car accident returning from spring break. They were hit from behind at full speed while exiting the highway. Skyler suffered massive head injuries. He was immediately airlifted to Norfolk Children's Hospital. After multiple days in a medically induced coma to prevent brain swelling and ease his pain, he was again airlifted to Washington Children's Hospital for surgery to repair numerous facial fractures, including extensive damage to his left eye. On April 18, 2018, after successful surgery and removal of his ventilator, he was transferred to a third hospital for extended rehabilitation. He continues to improve and even exceeds expectations in his recovery. Skyler will be returning home from rehab soon, but return to school will be a slow process within his level of tolerance post traumatic brain injury.
Through this time, Skyler's family has been by his side. We want to help them continue to be by his side through his rehabilitation for both physical and emotional support. His mother, Kirsten, started a new job just prior to the accident and has no sick leave or vacation time to rely on. She is unlikely to return to working full-time in the near future, and has been on leave without pay while she manages Skyler's care and recovery.
We would like to help Skyler and his family maintain their focus on his full recovery, rather than worry about finances at this crucial time.
Donations will go directly from this Go Fund Me account* to Skyler's family. Donations will help Skyler's family with lost wages while they care for and support Skyler, to pay expenses for a part-time care giver when Skyler is out of rehab and his mother returns to part-time work, and for any other uncovered health care expenses in the near term. Any donation, no matter the amount, will be helpful.
We love you Skyler, and we are behind you as you fight for a full recovery.
