My friends Skylar and Kelcie Torrance welcomed their second son Ty Richard Torrance into the world on Saturday, November 30, 2024 at 9:51am. Ty was a healthy baby boy born weighing 8.0 pounds and measuring 20.5 inches. With his older brother, Kaden, Ty completed the Torrance family of four.
After just over a week at home, Ty wasn't eating and was sleeping constantly. Skylar and Kelcie brought him to the hospital where he was diagnosed with viral meningitis. His condition worsened over the next few days and with damage to his liver, Ty was sent to Children's Hospital in Seattle. At Children's, Ty initially stabilized, but this past Thursday, December 12th, Ty responded poorly when a ventilator setting was changed and developed bleeding in his lungs and brain.
On that same Thursday, Kelcie began hemorrhaging from complications after pregnancy. Both her and Ty underwent surgery at the same time on December 12th. Kelcie to stop the hemorrhage, and Ty to alleviate the swelling on his brain. The surgery for Kelcie went well but significant damage had already occurred for Ty.
After fighting for his life for over a week, Ty Richard Torrance passed away peacefully around 1:00pm in the arms of his mom and dad on Friday, December 13, 2024. Skylar, Kelcie, and Kaden are devastated by the loss of Ty but feel blessed for the time they had with him.
During this time of grief, Skylar and Kelcie are looking at the reality of significant medical bills. They will have medical bills from Ty's birth, three days at Evergreen hospital, transport to Children's hospital, life support measures at each hospital for over a week, brain surgery for Ty, and emergency surgery for Kelcie.
Let's come to together to support our friends Skylar, Kelcie and Kaden
during the hardest chapter of their lives. Donations of any size will be greatly appreciated and directed directly to medical expenses the Torrance family faces immediately and in the coming months.
