Empowering Skye: From Spelman to Success
Dear Supporters,
Meet Skye Jackson, a graduating senior at Spelman College, the number one HBCU in the country. Skye's journey to Spelman wasn't just about academic achievement; it was a testament to her resilience, determination, and passion for making a difference.
From a young age, Skye understood the value of education and community involvement. Despite facing financial hardships and caring for her disabled mother, she excelled in high school, graduating in the top %5 of her class, while juggling numerous extracurricular activities. Her commitment to service as the former president of the Arrow Youth Council, formerly known as "The South Fulton Arrow Youth Council", led her to lead initiatives like "Play for Peace" and literacy festivals, striving to uplift her community and combat societal challenges.
At Spelman, Skye continues to shine. As a Computer and Information Science major, she became the captain of the first all-female, all-African American robotics team, Spelbots, breaking barriers and inspiring others. Her involvement in Girls Who Code, Spelman Esports, Codehouse, Society of Women Engineers, and the National Society of Black Engineers showcased her dedication to technology and innovation.
Skye's dual summer internships at The Coca-Cola Company/SAP software solutions as a Data Engineer and MITRE as a Cyber Futures Engineer, while simultaneously receiving her software engineering badge from IBM, further solidified her passion for technology. She dreams of becoming a Software/Data Engineer or Cyber Analyst, leveraging her skills to drive positive change in her and create opportunities for others. Skye hopes to one day start a non-profit organization to teach young minority girls technical skills and promote the next generation of computer scientists.
However, despite her accomplishments, Skye faces a critical challenge. Due to financial constraints, she was not awarded housing for her senior year and now struggles to cover basic necessities while paying rent off-campus. Additionally, she urgently needs funds to pay for summer school tuition and senior fees to graduate on time.
This is where your support can make a profound impact. By contributing to Skye's GoFundMe campaign, you're not just helping her overcome financial hurdles; you're investing in a future leader, innovator, and advocate for change. Your generosity will enable Skye to focus on her studies, graduate on time, and pursue her dreams without the burden of financial stress.
The funds raised will cover the cost of summer school tuition, housing over the summer, senior fees, and essential living expenses like food. Every donation, no matter the size, will bring Skye closer to her goals and empower her to continue making a difference in her community and beyond.
Together, let's rally behind Skye and show her that her hard work, resilience, and passion are valued and supported. Join us in fueling her journey from Spelman to success.
Thank you for your generosity and belief in Skye's potential.
The ultimate goal is 9,100. However, the most immediate goal is $5925.
Cost:
Summer classes: $5952 by April 26
Housing (May-July): $3150
Additional funds will be put towards senior fees and living expenses such as groceries.
GoFundMe processes funds in increments, which is inconvenient, being that I have critical deadlines. If you would like to donate directly, my cashapp is $skyejennell
