My son Skye Hunt is a strong, hard-working young man with a passion for the outdoors, extreme sports, and traveling the world. He loves his family deeply and is a loyal friend to many. Skye has always been active, adventurous, and full of life, inspiring those around him with his determination and kindness.
On January 30th, Skye was hospitalized for unmanaged pain caused by bulging disks in his back. The pain was so severe that he couldn't stop vomiting, which led to dehydration. During his hospital stay, doctors noticed dark red mottling on his skin, and his condition quickly deteriorated. His heart rate soared, his blood pressure dropped, and he was rushed to the ICU. After extensive testing, Skye was diagnosed with Streptococcal Toxic Shock Syndrome—a rare, life-threatening bacterial infection caused by Group A Streptococcus, which can progress to death within 48 hours. His organs began to suffer, and he developed acute kidney failure, requiring 24-hour dialysis. He also developed necrotizing pneumonia, which caused even more pain and made it nearly impossible for him to sleep. Skye became delirious, experiencing hallucinations and confusion, while his skin worsened with painful blisters. This once healthy, vibrant young man was suddenly fighting for his life.
Skye spent two weeks in the hospital, and while his doctors are hopeful for a full recovery, his journey is far from over. He now undergoes outpatient dialysis three times a week and continues to battle pain, pneumonia, and the mental toll of ICU-induced PTSD. Daily life has changed dramatically for Skye, who is unable to work and still has to cover his lease and living expenses. Despite reaching out to housing authorities, he cannot get out of his lease. The funds raised will help cover Skye's mounting medical bills and daily living costs, giving him some peace of mind as he focuses on healing. I don't ask for help lightly—in fact, I hate asking for help. But I ask for Skye, so he can concentrate on getting healthy again without the added stress of bills or debt from this sudden, life-altering illness. Any support means the world to us.
