My name is John Schmidt, and I’m the creator of Skelebarn Crew—a funny, year-round Halloween skeleton display set up in and around a 100-year-old barn on State Route 36 on the west side of Piqua, OH. The skeletons are dressed and themed as construction workers, hard at work refurbishing the barn, and the display faces a busy state route, providing joy, humor, and entertainment to everyone who passes by. I pour my heart into creating new scenes throughout the year, and it’s become a local tradition that many people look forward to.

Over the years, I’ve received countless cards and comments from people who enjoy the displays. Some have shared how Skelebarn Crew has brought them comfort during difficult times, like grieving a loved one, or how it’s become a special outing for families. Many parents and grandparents make a point to drive their kids and grandkids by to see the latest scenes, creating memories and laughter together. Hundreds more have reached out on social media to say how much the displays mean to them. Knowing that Skelebarn Crew brings smiles and laughter to so many keeps me inspired to keep going.

Each year, I spend several thousand dollars to create and maintain the displays, and I’m hoping to upgrade the driveway and refurbish the barn to make the experience even better for everyone.
