Skate-Aid Nepal Medical Trust Fund Fundraiser
Namaste, my name is Jonathan Jarodsky, but my friends call me JJ. I spent 3 months, (Nov 15 2024-January 15 2025) in Butwal, Nepal volunteering with Skate-Aid. I helped run skate workshops, 6 days a week. Myself and a few other skate coaches worked with kids at the Dhunga Skate-Aid Skatepark. Their mission is to empower youth through skateboarding. It was truly an incredible experience and the kids were super stoked to skate. Recently Nepal held a national skate contest and the Dhunga Skate-Aid skater boys swept the podium and one of our female students took 1st place! The program Skate-Aid Nepal is running is a fun, safe and empowering environment for youth to skate, learn new skills, and have a sense of community. A Skate-Aid Nepal library was just completed adjacent to the Dhunga Skate-Aid Skatepark where studying and other workshops can take place. Dhunga Skate-Aid Skatepark is a thriving scene and a place the kids love to be.
Skateboarding is inherently dangerous. Learning to fall and get back up is a big part of it. A life lesson on picking yourself up and learning from your mistakes. Unfortunately accidents do happen while skateboarding. We can mitigate risks by providing safety equipment, having first aid kits and providing first aid training to staff. But there are times where medical bills can be involved and sometimes parents can have a hard time financially to cover the cost. Skate-Aid Nepal and I would like to create a medical trust fund for the kids. The goal of this medical trust fund would be a fund set aside, exclusively for medical emergencies and some for safety gear and first aid supplies. If a student gets injured during a Skate-Aid workshop or event and the family is having a hard time covering the cost, then our Medical Trust Fund would be available to help to cover some of the cost.
