Support Sistah Tu and Family After Fire
Donation protected
Our Sister Tu needs our help! As a brilliant community activist for as long as I have known her, Tuere Burns, lovingly known as Sistah Tu, has given her heart and soul to fighting for Our People. Unfortunately, Tu experienced a fire at her family home in Marrero, La. Tu, her daughter Aisha, and a family friend Angela were living in the home at the time of the fire that occurred yesterday. As a result, all three lost many material items but did not lose their lives!
If you know Tu, I do not have to tell you why it's so important to support her and her family at this time. If you don’t know Sistah Tu, please know that she has selflessly given to so many people over the years. Recently, at a personally low financial time, Tu opened up her home to me to stay with her in the very house that suffered the fire and said I could stay there as long as I needed to. She consistently gives her gift of political education or the shirt off her own back, Tuere makes this world a better place for everyone—especially Black people. Bar None is her life’s work championing for Our Brothers and Sisters “behind the wall”/ensnared within the system of mass incarceration. She has taught in so many of the prisons in America the importance of political education. Her love and commitment to tirelessly support and honor political prisoners is outstanding. The love and care Sistah Tu shows for Black youth, especially the youth of New Orleans, is apparent in what she continues to do daily to support them. We all know the term she uses for the youth of the world: “OUR Babies.” Sistah Tu is born and raised in New Orleans and has done so much for its people that all of us should give what we can spare to ensure that she is able to get her home repaired quickly and without delay. Please help me support Our Sistah Tu so she can continue to help us, Family! Please give what you can
