This is Sirius Black. He is a 10-year-old Belgian Malinois. He's active, energetic, loving, and protective. We live in rural Trenton. We have all kinds of wildlife, but coyotes are the biggest problem.
Six months ago, while in our fenced-in yard, Sirius jumped the fence and chased after a coyote. I believe it baited him into a bigger group. My daughter and I followed the sounds of fighting and found Sirius limping back home. She had to carry him some of the way. The vet said the coyotes must have bitten his paw, shook his leg, and ripped the nerves through the armpit area. He cannot use his front left leg, and it needs to be amputated. He has a wound that will not heal on his paw because he licks at it constantly.
We have been wrapping his leg daily with triple antibiotics, gauze, and Ace bandages. The wound has only gotten worse. We brought him to a second vet who agreed his leg must be amputated. I got a quote for the cost; it's just under $1000. I'm a single mom with 2 kids in high school. If you can help in any way, we appreciate it!
