Support Sir Roland's Battle Against Cancer

Dear friends, family, and community,

I am reaching out to ask for your help for my former high school PE teacher and badminton coach, Sir Roland Gegato. He’s more than a coach to me—he helped shape me as an athlete, and I’m forever grateful for the positive impact he’s had on my life.

Originally from the Philippines, Sir Roland now resides in New Mexico with his wife and three children. He works as a Special Education (SPED) teacher and coaches volleyball to earn extra income for his family. He is a hardworking man, a wonderful husband, and a dedicated father.

On September 26, 2024, without much warning or symptoms, Sir Roland received the devastating news that he has stage 4 lung cancer. He is a 43-year-old, never-smoker. The cancer has spread, with osseous lesions affecting his spine, sacrum, ribs, and other areas, as well as extensive metastasis to his brain.

Despite this life-altering diagnosis, Sir Roland continues to fight with determination. He drives 6 hours one way from New Mexico to Arizona and back every 2-3 weeks for his chemotherapy as flights are very expensive. His treatment plan is focused on palliative care, aimed at managing his symptoms and providing comfort during this incredibly challenging time.

On top of the overwhelming burden of cancer, Sir Roland and his family were recently involved in a vehicular accident. Thankfully, no one was seriously injured, but this event has only added to the challenges they face.

As a loving son, brother, husband, father, and dedicated educator, Sir Roland has spent his life giving to others. Now, it's our turn to support him and his family in their time of need. The funds raised will help cover medical expenses, treatments, and provide some financial relief as he focuses on spending precious time with his family.
