Support Singer, Ashley Monical’s Recovery from Pneumonia

Hi friends and family,

Long story short, I came down with a bad case of pneumonia. During this time being sick, I have had to cancel all of my gigs because I have not been able to sing. As a full-time musician, my gigs are my livelihood.

After much contemplation over doing a GoFundMe or not, I’ve decided to do one because 1) I could use the help from my community, and 2) I’ve received messages from folks asking how they can help.

After a few days of really bad symptoms, I went to the CVS Minute Clinic on 9/12 and was diagnosed with bronchitis and “likely pneumonia” because they did not have an X-ray machine to confirm it. I was given antibiotics for pneumonia, pills to help my cough, and an inhaler.

My symptoms persisted: coughing, headache, body aches, fever, chills, fatigue/exhaustion, so my mom urged me to go to urgent care on 9/17, and my dad drove to Austin to help me. I had an X-ray, and it showed that I had a buildup of fluid in the left lobe of my lung, as well as fluid in the rest of my lungs. They gave me 2 new antibiotics to start, steroids, and a nebulizer. I was hoping to feel back to normal within a couple of days, but the cough is still present, and I’m having to sleep A LOT.

I’ve been in bed for the most part for nearly 2 weeks. I haven’t been able to sing yet, and my livelihood depends on it. I was supposed to be in Colorado this weekend visiting family friends, as well as doing a house concert show. I had to postpone my trip.

Next week, I have 5 shows/gigs (as well as a song to write and play at Riverbend Church on 9/29), and I’m praying hard that I will be able to sing and have the energy to do all of this! I do have the next 4 days to rest and heal, so I am hopeful.

There are a handful of folks who have already generously helped me with food deliveries, doctor visits, and Saint Cecilia’s Church in Round Top still paid me for Sunday service even though I was unable to be there. I’ve also received a few Venmo’s from sweet folks wanting to help out.
