Support Deanette's Family After Hurricane Melissa
0% complete
$9,111 raised of
56 donations
Hello! My name is Deanette James. I hail from the community of Darliston in Westmoreland, Jamaica. On October 28, 2025 Melissa made landfall in Jamaica as a category 5 hurricane; the largest to make landfall on our records. Due to its trajectory, the Western end of our beautiful island has suffered catastrophic damages.
My family along with members of our community in Darliston are amongst many that were unfortunately left homeless, without food, water, and other basic necessities. Roofs were destroyed,
houses/churches/schools/farms flattened and battered, furniture damaged and displaced. The livelihoods of many have lost all spark and for some, even hope.
We are reaching out at this time seeking assistance to rebuild from the ground up. Funds will be used to purchase:
•Non-perishable food items
•Other basic necessities
•Water tanks
•Mattresses
•Materials to start construction
Your generous donations, large or small, will be greatly appreciated in helping us to meet our goal.
Thanks in advance. #strongertogether
Jessica's Story
Many of you met me during my Clarendon chapters, but what most of you may not know is that my story began in the small town of Darliston, Westmoreland. A place filled with humble beginnings, tight-knit families, and a deep sense of community. It's where my roots are, and where so many of the people I love still call home.
Sadly, Darliston is one of the many rural towns that has been devastated by Hurricane Melissa. My family, along with many others in their immediate community, have lost everything: homes, clothing, food supplies, and the simple comforts that make life feel secure. The images and stories coming out of the area are heartbreaking, and the road to recovery will be long.
My sisters and I are co-organizing a GoFundMe to help provide immediate relief (food, clean water, clothing, and basic necessities), as well as to begin the process of rebuilding and restoring a sense of hope. If you are so moved to give, every and any contribution will make a tangible difference in helping our family get back on their feet.
