Our mom, Silvia, has always been the steady, caring presence in our lives. She’s known for her kindness, her quiet strength, and her constant willingness to help others. She’s never been one to ask for anything in return.
But now, Silvia is facing the toughest challenge of her life, and she needs our help.
In late April, she was diagnosed with stage 3 ovarian cancer. It was a devastating shock, and since then, everything has changed. She had to leave her job cleaning homes to start chemotherapy, which has taken a serious toll on her physically and left her unable to work.
After not being able to make payments, Silvia sold her main car. Then the van she was relying on broke down. Just as we were trying to adjust, the Chapel Hill floods hit — destroying all the furniture on the first floor of her home. Since early July, Silvia and my two younger siblings (ages 12 and 14) have been staying in a hotel with only the essentials.
Next month, she’ll be undergoing major surgery and spending several days in the ICU. Her recovery will require weeks of rest, continued chemo, and full-time support — so I’ll be taking time off work to care for her and my siblings.
We’re asking for help to cover:
* Repairs to the van so she can get to treatment
* Replacement of basic furniture lost in the flood
* Day-to-day living expenses while she cannot work
Despite everything, Silvia still finds comfort in the simple things — puzzles, nature walks, and spending time with my siblings and our three dogs: Felipe, Bella, and Fluffy. We’re doing our best to give her peace and stability during this fight, but we can’t do it alone.
If you’re able to give, share, or send a kind message, we’re deeply grateful. Every bit of support helps bring some relief and strength as Silvia focuses on healing.
Thank you so much,
Perla
