Many of you know my little 8-year-old son and superhero, Silas! He has a rare neuromuscular condition called Arthrogryposis Multiplex Congenita (AMC). I’ve been traveling from our home in Utah to a specialist at Nemours Hospital for Children in Wilmington, Delaware multiple times a year for the last 7 years for his ongoing medical treatment. Silas had a reconstructive surgery on both his feet on July 1st, 2024. Unfortunately, he has been faced with some unforeseen complications and is in need of multiple procedures over the next weeks and months to heal him.
I am now faced with the heartbreaking situation of being away from my other two children and staying here alone with Silas in Delaware for a few more weeks for this long process and road to recovery. Being a single mom and small business owner, being gone last month for 3 weeks was so financially straining, but this unexpected turn of events has turned devastating. I am so embarrassed to ask for help, but I just don’t know how else we are going to survive the next few months. My sole income as a baker is at a standstill right now. And unfortunately, I’ve had to refund my amazing customers hundreds of dollars in deposits because I can’t fulfill their orders. I’m struggling to see a way to keep the mortgage and bills paid at home, while funding the medical expenses, hotel, food, and rental car here in Delaware. Any help is beyond appreciated and I thank you all from the bottom of my heart.
