Support the Ultimate Frisbee Team in Siem Reap, Cambodia

Donation protected
Ulitmate frisbee has grown to become a popular community-driven sport in Siem Reap over the past several years. In the fall of 2023, local coaches and organizers introduced the sport to several community Khmer youth to participate. Ultimate frisbee is a non-contact mixed gendered team sport. Hanuman emphasizes the importance of gender equity, and coaches aim to ensure these principles are actively being applied during practice and competition.

The sport immediately drew attention from Siem Reap youth and several players from the expat community. With the leadership from several community members, players from Siem Reap were organized to attend the Cambodia Ultimate Open (CUO) hosted in Phnom Penh in March of 2024.

The CUO team from Siem Reap included approximately 30 players, with a mix of Expat and Khmer youth from Siem Reap.

Tristian Limousin, a community expat member and team player in Siem Reap, continued to coach and organize select players for additional tournaments to travel to participate with Phnom Penh’s ultimate frisbee team Reach-Chsey.

Around the same time training for this tournament, the Hanuman Ultimate Frisbee SR was established, in part from the momentum of the ongoing tournament opportunities and continued interest from passionate ultimate frisbee players in Siem Reap.

Team coaches and players have tremendous ambition to develop players for hopes of participation at a national level for the SEA Games in December of 2025. As of 2025, Ultimate Frisbee will become an official sport for the 2025 Southeast Asian Games! The opportunity for ultimate frisbee players in Siem Reap to participate in these upcoming national games will be extremely competitive.

Recent Tournaments and Future Competitions

The Mekong Cup in Bangkok hosted on October 5th-6th, 2024 was Hanuman’s first international competition. It is was an exciting time to showcase the dedication and hard work the team has developed over the last year. All players also successfully passed certification!

The funds raised through GFM were used to make this trip possible through purchasing passports ($135 each) for 10 players with limited finances. Funds were also applied to the entire team's transportation from Siem Reap, Cambodia to Bangkok, Thailand. Accommodations and food were also covered by these funds. We had several funding sourcing in addition to the contributions here, and every dollar was well spent, creating lifetime memories and opportunities for the entire team.

But there is more to come….

In February of 2025, the Cambodia Ultimate Open will be hosted in Phnom Penh. This will be a huge tournament with additional scouting activities for selecting talented players to participate in the SEA Games in December of 2025. Hanuman has ambition to showcase player talents in hopes of selection for the SEA Games.

As stated on their website, “Tracy founded KPI after witnessing, first-hand, the effects of genocide on communities and specifically the impact on gender roles and inequality.”

Tristian Limousin, one of the Siem Reap ultimate frisbee team organizers and coaches comments, “This tournament in Bangkok is a training tournament for the next big tournament who will take place in early 2025 (no date for the moment). Then the goal is to have the best of them to be selected on the Cambodian team for SEA (Southeast Asia) games in December 2025 in Thailand”, says Tristan.

But it takes financial investment and dedication from local, regional, and international communities to help make this happen.
