I am a proud graduate of Ulster County Community College and Marist University with a political science degree. I was born and raised in Kingston, NY. My boys were born and raised in Marbletown, NY. Of my three sons, one is in his junior year studying computer science at SUNY New Paltz, while my other two, 10 and 8 years old, are in second and fourth grades.
I was asked to write a blurb about myself and why I want to run for school board, but I’d like to begin first by asking you a question.
Have you ever attempted to help a grade school or middle school child with their math homework? Almost an impossible task, right? I had to sit in front of YouTube for 20 minutes learning how to round, multiply, and divide numbers. And it was then that I knew, I wanted to run for school board!
Seriously though, my name is Sid Hymes. I’ve lived with my beautiful wife in Lomontville for the past 13 years. Currently, I work for the NYS Justice Center, serving the vulnerable population across NYS. Prior to that, I spent 10 years serving individuals with developmental disabilities.
I am an avid tennis player in the park system and am a member of the MAC gym, to lift weights and be my best self.
Using my skill set of being a problem solver, a team leader, a lifelong resident, and a caring parent who takes pride in the educational process, the school board is where I need to be.
I want to ensure all children, parents, and teachers are represented and have a voice. I want to guarantee that all parties interested in district and school policies will feel heard and are made aware of the constant fluidity of the policies.
I will make sure that parents and teachers alike have a voice in every vote so that we all can feel that we are creating the system and not following like blind sheep.
