Support Shrien's Writing Future!

Hi community!!

A few months ago you all rallied in supporting me in attending the Roots, Wounds, Words Fellowship (https://www.rootswoundswords.org/2024-wr-fellows) and the experience was so meaningful to me. I was able to workshop and present an excerpt from my novel, Filomena and the Fool, which traces the story of a young girl rediscovering magic after her mothers death. This story is so close to my heart and my personal life and to share it with others means so much to me.

I was recently accepted to the amazing YA workshop at TinHouse (over 1400 applications submitted and an acceptance rate of less than 10%) for Filomena and the Fool and I am asking my community for their support in covering the cost of the program. The total cost of the workshop will be $1600 for tuition and $ 800 for room/board.

Description of Filomena and the Fool:

FILOMENA AND THE FOOL is a YA fantasy novel set in New York City. The novel follows seventeen-year-old Filomena Farisi as she navigates the grief of the sudden loss of her mother. Her mother, the spiritualist of the family, encouraged Filomena to follow her inner magic. Without her mother, Filomena has lost interest in her art, and cannot keep up with high school. One day in art class, Filomena follows an orb of light into her school theater and finds a magical compass that guides her to Grand Central at midnight. That night, a mysterious boy drops from the ceiling, the Fool figure from the tarot cards, expelled from his universe to start a new journey of realization on earth. Together, the two battle Wandering Souls and search for a portal so that the Fool can return home and Filomena can speak to her mother one last time. As the Fool becomes more human and Filomena engages with her spiritual powers. the two realize that their journey is not one of seeking but of Love.
