A little more about “Purple Sky”:

We’re all familiar with stories of big love: relationships that start with a meet-cute and last years. But we see fewer stories about little love, about bite-sized connections that are precious and fleeting.

Our film, “Purple Sky”, follows two young men who say yes to one of those magical nights.

The story follows Adrian (Andrew Tamarkin), a barista and jaded musician who lives with his successful boyfriend. When he runs into a magnetic stranger (Gabriel Quintella) twice in one day, they wind up embarking on a nighttime adventure through Los Angeles.

Inspired by films like Before Sunrise, Carol and Worst Person in the World, “Purple Sky” is a romantic film that asks a simple question: when an alluring stranger makes you question your long-term relationship, what do you do?

Why this film NOW?

We want “Purple Sky'' to capture the nuance and variety of young LGBTQ+ love stories. The film expands beyond romance — beyond typical queer tropes — to touch on larger themes relevant to all audiences: the influence of money in relationships, changing norms about monogamy, and leaving home in search of fulfillment.

THE TEAM:

Abby Royce — WRITER / DIRECTOR / PRODUCER — is a writer, director and producer based in Los Angeles. She creates location-centered stories with characters deeply shaped by and rooted in their environment. She recently left Netflix’s Original Series team to be a full-time filmmaker. She recently produced The World Isn’t Ending, and has several other upcoming projects in the works.

Andrew Tamarkin — LEAD ACTOR / PRODUCER — is a queer actor, writer, and producer interested in making ordinary characters extraordinary. Recent acting credits include The World Isn’t Ending, Feeling Vertigo, Countdown, and I’m Not Like You. He works in-house at LATV Networks as a writer, producer, and on-air talent.

Gabriel Quintella — LEAD ACTOR / PRODUCER — is a Brazilian-Italian actor and producer who pulls from the history of cinema to inspire bold creative choices in his work. He was recently seen in Summer Heat, a Brazilian Netflix Original, as well as 4 feature films, 1 web-series, and several short films and plays.

Naum Milyavskiy — PRODUCER — is a writer, director and producer. Naum has worked as a screenplay analyst for over four years and directed his debut film in 2021 about a group of California falconers. His current projects tell stories about marginalized communities and rare artists who don’t typically get coverage in mainstream media.
