Support Shipibo Village Rebuilding After Floods

We are a small group of people with relationships in this village - including Sarai Shapiro & Jens Jarvie and Alicia and Robin York. We are partnering with the Holos Institute to raise money to support the building of a Shipibo village that has had to move to higher ground due to recent catastrophic flooding.

We know that many people are benefiting through the ceremonies and traditions that have been shared throughout the world from the Shipibo-Kobibo people of Peru. This is an opportunity to give back that will make a big difference for one small Shipibo village.

For generations, Shipibo families have lived simply along the Ukalali River in the town of Paoyhan in the Amazon rainforest of Peru sustaining themselves from the land in small wooden homes.

In recent years, global climate change has intensified the rainy season. Flooding has become more severe with each passing year ~ repeatedly flooding homes, destroying cassava and other staple crops, and killing the chickens that families rely on for food. Water contamination has increased, and waterborne diseases are on the rise, creating an ongoing threat to health and survival.

With no other option, more than 60 families were forced to leave their ancestral homes and relocate to higher ground.

While the flooding is less severe in the new location, the storms continue—and the village lacks the infrastructure needed to withstand them. Many families, including mothers and children, are living under torn tarps that leak and offer little protection from the elements.

The community is working to rebuild, starting with the most urgent need: safe, durable roofs.

They are seeking to provide tin roofing for the first 20 homes. While more than 60 families have relocated, these 20 homes are the first step toward stabilizing the village.

We have supported this community before, and every dollar raised will go directly to them to purchase these essential materials.

Your support will help protect families from the rain, reduce exposure to illness, and offer a foundation for rebuilding their lives.
