Sheryl Merritt has always been the heart of our family, known for her kindness and her willingness to help anyone in need. As a single parent, she raised me with strength and compassion, even when life took unexpected turns. In 1993, we moved from Norfolk, Virginia to Utah, starting over in a new place with no friends or family, driven by faith and hope for a better future. Sheryl worked as an assistant to an activity director in a nursing home and later became a foster parent, always putting others before herself. After I graduated high school, she went back to school, determined to improve her life despite the challenges she faced as a single mother.
In 2003, Sheryl was diagnosed with ovarian and uterine cancer, which began a long journey of health struggles. Over the years, her health has declined, and she has lost a significant amount of weight. Now, she faces new challenges: she needs dental work to be able to eat properly, as she has no upper bone and cannot get the nutrition she needs. She also needs new clothes, as her current wardrobe is several sizes too large, and she requires skin removal surgery to improve her comfort and quality of life. Recently, Sheryl had to move from an independent home to assisted living, downsizing from a one-bedroom apartment to a studio. This transition has made storage and organization difficult, and she needs help to make her new space comfortable and manageable.
We are raising funds to cover Sheryl’s dental care, new clothes, storage solutions for her new home, and medical needs. Every contribution will help her regain her health, dignity, and independence, allowing her to enjoy life and continue being the caring, generous person she has always been. Your support means the world to us as we work to give Sheryl the comfort and care she deserves.
