Please Help Jamaica Recover After Hurricane Melissa

My name is Shernett “Sher” Hunter, and I was born and raised in Jamaica. Today, I live in Palm Beach, Florida, but Jamaica will always be home. When Hurricane Melissa struck, it devastated the island—flooding communities, destroying homes, and leaving countless families without food, clean water, or shelter.

I still have close family and lifelong friends living in Jamaica, many of whom have been directly affected by the hurricane. Hearing their voices filled with worry and despair broke my heart. That’s why I decided to take action.

Together with other members of the Jamaican community here in Florida, I am organizing a relief effort to collect funds and supplies for those most in need.

Transparency is very important to me, so I want to be clear about how all donations will be used:

• 100% of the funds raised will go directly toward purchasing food, water, toiletries, baby items, cleaning supplies, and basic household necessities for families who have lost their homes or belongings.

• The money will also help cover shipping costs to send these supplies from Florida to Jamaica.

• Once in Jamaica, trusted local volunteers and community leaders—people I personally know and grew up with—will help distribute everything directly to affected families in parishes such as St. Mary, Portland, and St. Thomas.

Every dollar counts. Even a small contribution can help feed a family, provide clean water, or bring comfort to someone who has lost everything.
