Sherry and her family need our help!!
On March 4, 2025, Sherry was diagnosed with brain cancer - a Stage 4 glioblastoma. Glioblastomas are aggressive and incurable. In Sherry’s case, the tumor is inoperable, and she will have to rely on known protocols to shrink and manage it.
Sherry went to see the ENT for a bout of vertigo, and they sent her straight to the ER for an emergency CT scan. She spent a week in the hospital having extensive testing to rule out infectious disease, multiple sclerosis, etc. Multiple MRIs, a lumbar puncture, and various blood tests did not provide a clear diagnosis.
On February 24, 2025, Sherry underwent a brain biopsy at Johns Hopkins Hospital and only then was a conclusion made that it is a high-grade glioma. A treatment plan has been put in place which was started on March 27, 2025. Sherry’s fight will require all her energy and time. The initial treatment phase is 6 weeks of simultaneous chemotherapy and radiation. She has enrolled in a clinical trial at the same time that will last at least 10 weeks. She has put her career on hold during one of the most physically, emotionally, and financially challenging times anyone could face.
Those of you who know her know she’s no nonsense. She has dedicated her life to helping others – a respected Optometrist, a mom, a wife, and a friend. Another friend calls her a straight talker. Due in part to her dedication, care and honesty, she has fostered a loyal patient community for over 25 years. You also know her family and how they revolve around her, leaning on her for support, advice, knowledge, and most importantly, love. So many of us have been the recipients of Sherry’s unconditional, unwavering, and steadfast love and support. You also know that she would never ask for help because she is always trying to help others. Anything to support a patient or friend, she will provide.
So now I’m asking for help for them. Sherry will be out of work for some time, and medical bills and regular life expenses are adding up. The family’s living expenses are ongoing with a daughter in high school and a son in college. They are now without Sherry’s financial support, as she must put all her strength and stamina into getting well.
Please help Sherry and her family keep a strong foundation to wage this fight. Any amount is appreciated, and they are so grateful for everyone’s love and support. Now let’s kick this tumor’s butt, it has picked on the wrong West Virginia girl!
