Support Sherry Robinson's Vision Restoration Journey
Donation protected
I have set-up this GoFundMe on behalf of my sister, Sherry Robinson. By way of some background, Sherry had to have emergency surgery for a detached retina in her right eye in late March 2024, as this type of surgery was not able to be undertaken in the Cayman Islands, she was referred to the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute which is a part of University of Miami Health Systems in Miami, Florida. The surgery was not covered by insurance and had to be fully paid in advance. The first surgery was successful and during the post-surgery recovery, Sherry had to remain face down for 90% of the day in her hotel room for 7 days while the eye healed. To be able to fly back to the Cayman Islands, she had to choose the method of surgery that leaves an oil bubble in the eye otherwise she would not have been able to fly for 6 months. This oil bubble has to be removed between 3-6 months post-surgery and we therefore have to schedule the second surgery by the last week of Sept 2024. As a communications professional her loss of vision has impacted her ability to work, and we are seeking to raise funds for the second surgery which is slightly more costly than the initial surgery as a cataract will need to be removed at the same time. Your help with our fundraising to meet this deadline, which is now a matter of urgency, is so greatly appreciated.
