My name is Sherrie McCrary, and in late April of last year, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. My life changed overnight. I began chemotherapy in May and quickly found myself unable to work. From June to August, I was hospitalized five times due to complications from treatment. My mobility declined rapidly—I went from walking, to using a cane, and eventually needed a wheelchair to get around.
By July, I had used all my vacation time and had to go out on medical leave. I paid out of pocket to keep my medical insurance, but with no income coming in, I had to rely on my savings. In October, my insurance dropped me in the middle of my treatments. I was still undergoing chemotherapy, physical therapy, and had other appointments scheduled. By November, I had just enough savings to last until the end of the year. I finally qualified for Medicaid, but my savings are now depleted and the bills keep piling up.
I am asking for help for the first time in my life. The funds raised will help me cover essential living expenses like my mortgage, utilities, and basic needs. I have a mastectomy surgery scheduled for January 19th and am unable to return to work right now. I have applied for disability, but approval takes time. If I could work, I would. I have exhausted all my possibilities and am reaching out for support so I can focus on my recovery and health. Any help you can give means the world to me.
