Hello Friends, Family, and Kind Strangers,
We are reaching out today to ask for your help in supporting an amazing individual in her fight against cancer. This September, my dear friend Sherlaine was diagnosed with a rare form of liposarcoma at the age of 40. She is a wife to Derrick and mother to their beautiful 8-year-old little girl, Emma. Understandably, this diagnosis has turned her world and theirs completely upside down.
Due to the rarity of this particular cancer, it took several weeks and multiple doctors/pathologists to make a diagnosis after her tumors were discovered. Sherlaine ended up having to fly to Houston and see a specialist at the MD Anderson Cancer Center to obtain a final diagnosis and treatment plan. She is currently undergoing her first round of chemotherapy in Houston, and the remaining five rounds will be completed at a local MD Anderson partner in the Phoenix area over the next five months. Yet, there may be times that she has to go back to the main MD Anderson center in Houston for other tests or additional treatments in the coming months.
The care Sherlaine has received so far has been amazing. We are thankful that she has access to such excellent medical professionals. However, the costs associated with travel, lodging, and medical deductibles have been overwhelming. Sherlaine’s job is remote, and she has continued to work as much as possible. Derrick’s job, unfortunately, cannot be completed remotely. So now that his PTO is exhausted, all the time that he needs to travel with and care for her will go unpaid.
Sherlaine was very hesitant to accept any form of fundraising – but the expenses and time away from work are piling up. We are launching this GoFundMe with the hopes of covering the cost of her expenses for the rest of her treatments, to recoup some of the travel expenses for her initial diagnosis, and to supplement for lost income due to missed work.
How the donations will be used:
- Medical deductibles and copays covering chemotherapy, medication, and other recommended treatments such as radiation or possible surgery
- Transportation to/from Houston
- Accommodations near the cancer center
- Meals and expenses during her stay
- Living expenses
Our goal is to raise $15,000 to help Sherlaine overcome this battle. With our assistance, she can focus on her treatment and recovery without the added stress of this financial burden. Everything raised will go directly to supporting her family and medical expenses for the best possible care.
Sherlaine is a loving mother, wife, sister, daughter, and friend. She is facing this fight for her life with unbelievable strength, resilience, and courage, with a positive attitude as well. With our help, she can beat this cancer, watch her little girl grow up, and continue making memories with her family.
