With the word 'cancer' comes the overwhelming fear of the unknown. I was recently diagnosed with breast cancer, and the anxiety and stress of the medical expenses, upcoming surgery, and the extensive treatment ahead have been difficult to process. Facing this diagnosis has changed my life in ways I never expected, and I am doing my best to stay strong and hopeful each day.

Just three months ago, I landed my dream job as a Health Services Director of a 150+ bed Assisted Living and Memory Care facility. With over 18 years of nursing experience, I worked hard to reach this point in my career and have always put my heart and soul into caring for others. Unfortunately, because I have only worked at my new job for a short period of time, I am not eligible for FMLA, and I do not have sick time or PTO to fall back on. This means that as I undergo surgery and treatment, I will be facing not only medical bills but also lost wages, making this time even more challenging.
