Hi, my name is Merlisia Clarke. I am coordinating this fundraiser for my nephew, Shemic St Hilaire, who aspires to obtain his BFA in Performance and Choreography at Edna Manley College in Jamaica. Please take a moment to read his story below!
Hi, my name is Shemic St Hillaire, a young dance artist, dance maker, actor and photographer from Point Fortin, Trinidad and Tobago. I’m seeking your support as I embark on a vital step in my journey to pursue a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Performance and Choreography at Edna Manley College in Jamaica.
The total cost for my first year (tuition, accommodation, fees) is $16,062.55 USD. Being accepted into this program is a true blessing and chance to grow as an artist and deepen my craft. I’ve diligently searched for scholarships and financial aid, but as an international student, options are limited.
In my community, it’s rare for young men to pursue careers in dance. But I’m determined to defy the odds. I believe every artist carries a seed of potential that, when nurtured in the right environment, can thrive—and for me, that place is Edna Manley College.
Dance entered my life at 15 and changed everything. I gained purpose, direction, and opened doors I never imagined, leading me to dedicating myself fully with passion, discipline, and intention.
With your support, I will return better equipped to create, teach, and uplift others. Especially youth who lack access to opportunities. Every contribution, big or small, brings this dream closer to reality. Indeed it’ll be an investment in the future of the cultural landscape of Trinidad and Tobago/ the Caribbean.
