Support Shelly Taylor's Road to Recovery

Donation protected
My name is Dyana and I am seeking help by raising funds for my friends, Shelly Taylor and her husband, Todd Taylor.

For those who have not had the pleasure to meet or know Shelly, Shelly is a River Valley School District elementary teacher who has served our community in that capacity with distinction for the last 14 years. Shelly continues to be a beacon of light to so many children. Shelly also serves our community by encouraging health and exercise by hosting and teaching cardio drumming weekly. Moreover, she served for 4 years as a Chikaming Township Park Board member and secretary to enhance the quality of life in Chikaming Township. Shelly is a loving and supportive wife to Todd Taylor, who is the Chief of Police for Chikaming Township. Together, they both have done and continue to do so much for our community because of the love they have for our community.

Shelly is the mother of three boys, a daughter, sister, and aunt. She also has a big heart for animals and loves her kitties. Anyone who has had the privilege to know Shelly will tell you she is the kindest person you could ever meet, always has a smile, and genuinely has the biggest heart.

Sadly, on November 17, 2024, Shelly fell off a ladder. She was airlifted to the University of Chicago, where she underwent emergency surgery to repair several damaged vertebrae in her back. Although the surgery was successful, she currently cannot feel anything below her knees. She is currently working hard at Shirley Ryan Ability Lab. Shirley Ryan doctors anticipate Shelly will be in inpatient therapy for 5 weeks. Thereafter, she will likely go home in a wheelchair and continue the fight to walk again with outpatient therapy.

We are asking for help with the cost of making Shelly’s home handicap accessible. Additionally, the current expense of her husband and children driving back and forth to Chicago several times a week, food, and other expenses has taken a toll on the Taylor family. Furthermore, the unanticipated expenses for medical costs for spinal cord repair and therapy leave the Taylor family overwhelmed with uncertainty.

This is where you can help quell any fear and uncertainty by helping Shelly and her family navigate through these uncertainties. Any donation will greatly help and will be greatly appreciated by Shelly, her family, and the lives of everyone she has touched and changed for the better.

Rest assured, Shelly is a fighter. She continues to be focused, driven, and determined to walk again. Why? Because she wants to get back to serving others. Together, let’s help serve her as she continues to fight and strive to walk again and get her back in the classroom. After all, she treats her students as though they were her own babies. Let’s serve her like she’s served us for so many years—with love.

Any donation is greatly appreciated. Thank you so very much.
