Mark is currently in intensive care, paralyzed from the neck down due to Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS), also known as acute inflammatory demyelinating polyradiculoneuropathy (AIDP). This rare neurological disorder causes the body's immune system to attack the peripheral nervous system, leading to severe and sudden paralysis. Mark’s case is considered extremely severe, and despite ongoing treatment, there has been little improvement. Doctors expect his recovery to take a year or more, and he has been pre-approved for treatment at a specialized facility outside of Minnesota once he is healthy enough to be transferred.

Throughout this ordeal, Mark’s wife, Sheli, has been by his side every step of the way. Sheli has had to quit her job to care for Mark full-time, which has created significant financial insecurity. While Mark’s medical expenses are covered, Sheli’s living expenses are not. She will need support for housing, food, and other daily costs, especially when Mark is transferred to a rehab facility and she must relocate to be with him. The stress of not knowing how she will afford these necessities is overwhelming, and it’s making an already difficult situation even harder.
