Support Sheli Crauthers' Spinal Recovery

PRAYERS NEEDED

My sweet mom fell on Thursday morning at 5am (Oct 10th). She screamed out in pain, I woke up to find her on the floor not able to move anything but her eyes and head. 911 was called immediately and we had 8 EMT in our apartment to try and move her. She was rushed to Dell Seton. I’ve never seen my mom in so much pain, crying out for help.

Within 3 hours, the CT Scans and MRI showed her spine was fractured and her spinal cord was Injured. She was rushed into emergency spinal surgery. She was considered quadriplegic. Fortunately, she has full brain function and still has her spunky personality.

Day 4 in the hospital, she can wiggle her toes and legs, and bend her knees on her own. Her upper body is extremely weak but she has some minor movement in her arms at points of the day. She is unable to feel her hands but I massage them all day which helps and makes her arms and hands “wake up.” She cannot hold anything and doesn’t not have control of her extremities(fingers). All of her pain is in her neck, arms, and hands as it feels like stinging, burning pins and needles. She has moved to a solid food diet. She is on pain medication but no amount of medication will take the pain away. It does allow her to get some rest at some points which is good.

Everyday we see improvements and small wins. Sheli has a strong will which will take her far in this recovery. I’m impressed everyday with what she can do.

We are in need of prayers for my mom : Sheli Crauthers. Please pray for God to put healing hands on her. For her to be able to move her arms and fingers. For her pain to go away and for everyone around her including herself to not lose hope. For her fear to be removed. For the Holy Spirit to wrap her up and give her peace through this.

The road to recovery is very long, anywhere from months to maybe years but every case and person is different. Physical therapy will come tomorrow (Monday 10/14) to see her movement. Doctors can’t say exactly what the next day, next week or next month will look like. We focus 1 day at a time. Luckily we have had the sweetest nurses and surgery team throughout this process. We are so thankful to have such great family and support around us close and far. Sheli has a strong will and I know she will beat all odds. Please continue to pray for her.

I am not sure what tomorrow holds, but we remain faithful. Our God is greater and works miracles and I pray for that over my mom.
