Hello everyone, my name is Katie, and I am Shelby’s older sister. I am writing this with a very heavy heart on behalf of my sister and her partner, Chase. Shelby and Chase have been travelling abroad, living out a dream they worked incredibly hard for. While in Bangkok, Thailand, Shelby received the unexpected and devastating diagnosis of thyroid cancer. This news has shaken our entire family, especially as she is facing this medical emergency so far from home.

Shelby brings energy into every room she enters, and with that comes a whole lot of personality (if you know, you know!). She is adventurous, spirited, and the kind of person who makes you laugh until your cheeks hurt. Her deep love for travel and connection is what first led her and Chase on this journey together. Shelby has always faced life with courage and optimism, and even now, she continues to navigate her diagnosis with remarkable strength and grace.

Unfortunately, Shelby does not have medical insurance that covers cancer treatment while abroad, which has made this situation even more overwhelming.

After consulting with multiple physicians and hospitals, Shelby and Chase made the incredibly difficult decision to proceed with treatment in Bangkok. Shelby has access to highly experienced specialists there, and returning to Canada would cause significant delays, putting her health at further risk.

The financial strain has been unexpected and immense. All medical expenses including doctor visits, surgery, hospital stays, pre- and post-operative testing and scans, and recovery costs must be paid entirely out of pocket.
