In the middle of the night, my sister Shelbi’s world was shattered when her ex-boyfriend broke into her apartment and brutally attacked her — while her two young boys were asleep in the bed beside her. No one should ever experience that kind of fear, especially not a single mother trying to keep her children safe.

Shelbi is now in recovery, both physically and emotionally, and focusing on giving her boys the sense of safety and stability they deserve. She’s one of the strongest people I know, but healing from something like this takes time, care, and community support.
